Middle page analysis

This magazine middle page features many images of a band that the article is discussing, they are mainly in the top part of the left page. The page is presented in this way to grab more attention as the reader will be able to see the band members in the images. In the photographs, their outfits consist of performing in a western fashion (in black and white), formal clothing and a coloured image of them performing. These images are presented as they contrast against each other so they stand out in order to grab the readers attention.

The article is presented in paragraphs, the most important part of the paragraph is in bold in order catch the readers eye, so they know what the article is about.  As the article is in set paragraphs, they act as a border to present the other features included on the page. This means that the the readers attention on directed into where the editor wants them to look. Between the paragraphs two quotes are included in a large text and in a different font so it will stand out. But it also includes a shape of cows head and stars on either side. The cows head links to the western theme displayed in the images, but it is in the colour red because it stands out against the white and black writing. Additionally, the stars are rating that other people have judged the band to be. This is displayed because it will instantly tell the reader the quality of the bands music and give them an idea of what the article is about.

In addition, an extra paragraph has been included on the far side of the right page. It is displayed in a black box to make it separate from the rest of the page. The effect of this is that it stands out from the rest of the double page spread.

This middle page spread shows an image that covers one of the double page spread to catch the majority of the readers attention. The picture shows the musicians posing in a river; the women is shown naked, whereas the man is displayed in formal wear. The contrast in their costumes will intrigue the reader because they will want to know why they are presented so differently.

A quote is given on the bottom, right hand side of the page to give the reader some information of the article. The text is given in the colour white to make it visible from the background. However, it also complements the adjacent page; this is because the page is white, matching the quote. The effect of this is that it will direct the readers eyes towards the quote, which is where the editor wants the reader to look.

The title 'Magic and Loss' uses a different font from the text and is in the shape of a semi-circle. This is because is makes is stand out from the rest of the page and it is the first thing that the readers see. Also, the use of stars are used around the title' this is to emphasis the idea of 'magic' in the article. However, it links to the quote displayed on the right page as this also has star shapes around it.

These pages are discussing the singer 'Jimmy Hendrix.' On the left hand side of the left page, a border is included to bring the readers attention towards the article and image; this is done to persuade the readers to read the article. In addition, it compliments the right page as it also features a block shape in the colour black. This means that the border and this shape reflect of each other and it directs the reader what to read. The editor has done this as they want the reader to acknowledge the information presented in the black areas of the page.

A large title in the middle of the double page reads, 'Are You Experienced?' It is displayed in black because it is the opposite colour of the background, this means it will standout. It is across the middle of the pages because it brakes the traditional structure of a middle page in a magazine. More often than not, the title is as the top of the left page. The effect of this is that the it will grab more attention because it contrasts to the rest of the pages.

A colour scheme of red, black and white is included to influence the reader's eyes and direct them where to look as the colours dramatically reflect of each other. The subtitle 'Hendrix' is in the colour red to show the importance of Jimmy Hendrix; if the reader is not aware of who this is, they will be interested in the article because they will want to know who 'Hendrix' is and why he has power.
